Kuska has many meanings for me. As such I use it across multiple platforms. The word comes from the Quechua language, the primary indigenous language spoken across the Andean region (~8-10 million total, ~5 million native speakers in Peru). It literally translates in English to “together.” In the context of our trips this is significant for two reasons:

  1. The impact of the trip will only be achieved through frequent and completely immersive experiences together with our local Peruvian brothers and sisters. They will be the teachers of their history, culture, and lived experiences. The Kuska Travelers will be enriched as they take the active learner role since a Peruvian is an expert on being Peruvian.

  2. By design, our trips are intended to be experienced with fellow travelers. It will be together with the other Kuska Travelers that we will grow the most through shared experiences in a new setting.

Fun Fact: Cuzco or Cusco (preferred spelling) is not related to the word "kuska." Cusco is derived from the Quechua word "Qosqo," meaning navel or center of the universe, which is what the ancient capital meant for the Inca Empire.
